Oncea Honda radio loses power (leave your lights on, changeyour battery), it will require a 5 digit Honda radio code to let itwork again. This is a great anti-theft device but a real pain forhonest Honda owners. You have 3 options:
Option 1: Pay SomeoneSinceyour are reading this, you probably don’t want this option. A dealerwill take your radio out, get the radio’s 8-digit serial number, callHonda, and they will, from the 8-digit radio serial number, get the5-digit radio code. This cost anywhere from $40 to $150 dollars. Whatis really sad it that they probably did not need to take the radio out(see option 3).

Option 2: Find the CodeUsually theradio’s 8 digit serial number and 5-digit code (the code usually startswith an “M”) are on a white sticker somewhere on the vehicle. Thesticker can be found
- Inside top of glove box
- Inside left side of the glove box
- In the trunk along the gasket or underneath where the speakers are
- Under the fuse-box panel lid beside the battery
- Under the ashtray
- Under the center consoles lid
- Under the hood at the top right hand corner
If you found the sticker, you are done (but you might need to read the section Your Radio is Blocked... below
Option 3: The Secret 1/6 buttonsIfyou did not find the white sticker, then there is still hope (thewording ' hope' is used because this does not work for all Hondaradios). Get the serial number from the radio by holding the 1 and 6buttons while turning on the radio. The fist 4 digits of the serialnumber will be proceeded with a “U” (U for upper) and the second 4digits will be proceeded with a “L” (L for lower). Then call Honda at800.999.1009, press option 5, give them your VIN, name, approximatemileage, and this serial number and they should be able to give you the5-digit radio code. Note that your salesperson at your local Hondadealer should be able to get the radio code from the radio serialnumber as well.

So youtried 10 times to enter the a code and now the radio will not acceptany codes. Its “blocked”. You must unblock it enter the code. To unblock you have 2 choices: (1) unhook thebattery, OR (2) run the radio on for an hour (no sound will come out). Either one will unblock it so you can try the codes again.
Honda Radio Serial Number Location
Many Honda models come equipped with theft-deterrent systems within the radio or navigation system to prevent it from being stolen. So when the battery goes dead or is disconnected, the radio will lock itself, essentially making into a brick, until you enter the code specific to your vehicle that will unlock it and enable it to be used regularly again. In order to retrieve your code, you’ll need your vehicle’s vehicle identification number (VIN) and the serial number of the device you want to unlock.
Finding Your VIN
Finding your vehicle’s VIN is the first step. The 17-digit number can be found in several different places including:
- At the base of your windshield
- On your vehicle’s registration
- On your insurance statement or proof-of-insurance card
- On your Honda financial services statement
Finding the Serial Number
Once you have your vehicle’s VIN, you’ll next need to locate the serial number of the radio or device that you need to unlock. Some dealerships place the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle inside of the glove box. Sometimes the serial number is written on a sticker on the inside of the glove box. If you own a 2001-year model or later, then you may be able find the serial number by looking at the device display.
If you own a Honda model from 2001 or earlier, the serial number is written on the back of the device, so you’ll need to take it in to your nearest West Michigan Honda Dealer for a service visit in order to gain access to it.
Retrieving the Code
Once you have the VIN and serial number, visit Honda’s website to retrieve your code. It will ask you for your phone number, zip code, and email address so that your code can be sent directly to you. The website has operational hours from Sunday through Friday 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. PDT and Saturday 4 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
