Here is a step by step manual guide for 3D Prophet II GTS/GTS Pro software installation process on Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / Vista / XP. 1 Download 3DP-NT-1241.exe file for Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / Vista / XP, save and unpack it if needed. Guillemot/Hercules 3D Prophet II GTS 64MB GeForce 2 GTS. For power gamers who feel absolutely no pain, Hercules and Elsa offer a 64 MB version of their GeForce2 graphics card. Our notes show that the Hercules card performed very similarly to the Absolute Multimedia GeForce3 solution, receiving similar comments.

64mbGtsWhy can't we ever, ever, ever catch up with PC gaming like we can with every other PC interest? Scanners are butt-cheap nowadays, CD-R drives are now 12x for what was being charged for 6x around a year ago¿ but 3D cards keep going up and up and up. Nowadays, if you want full-featured 3D insanity you're looking to pay anywhere from $200 to a whopping $500 to play your Giants in 1024x768 with bump-mapping. That's almost the price of two consoles, just so you can play the fingerful of games that support all the features offered by cards like the GeForce 2 Ultra and the 3D Prophet II GTS Pro. But you wouldn't be reading this if you were worrying about the cash, would you? So I'll quite the whiny morality play, and get to it.

You could buy a region-free incredible DVD player for the same price as these cards. Just thought you'd want to know.

That being said, let's get to the meat. This is a beast of a card, boasting 4 dual-texturing pipelines that generate a whopping 1.6 gigatexels per second, and 25 million triangles per second, just a teeny bit less than the GeForce2 Ultra. The core speed of 200MHz on the chip keeps things moving breezy, and you can expect effective speeds of up to 350MHz. While it's not as fast as the 3D Prophet II Ultra, and the memory bandwidth isn't quite as high, it's still a ridiculous amount of power to be pumping through your computer. Now that we're in the bigtime, you can expect the standard massive big-o-tronic heatsink to hum away the minute you turn on the system, just to keep the monstrosity from exploding or just igniting into a white-hot flame. Hercules boasts that its heatsinks have been crafted to allow the fastest speeds possible for the card, and if you watch the thing in action, you'll be surprised that the card just doesn't lift the computer off the ground with its sheer wind-power.

In terms of inputs and outputs, you've got an SVGS monitor output, and an S-VHS/TV-Out so that you can play DVDs or your favorite games on NTSC and PAL TVs in both 640x480 and 800x600 resolution. And for those of you that like that high-resolution word processing, the card also boosts your 2D resolution up to a whopping 2048x1536 with 16 million colors, and a 60Hz refresh rate. What you won't be able to do, however, is use the DVI-out. Sorry kids, that's only with the more expensive Ultra version.

The card also comes with a copy of Power DVD, a very touch-friendly software utility that allows you to play DVDs, using the card's 'motion compensation engine' to provide a clearer picture. It's a great interface that has all the features you expect from a DVD utility. I popped in Aliens, and was suitably impressed with the clarity, especially in fast action sequences, and in scenes with deep blacks. This is a gaming site, so no matter how nice your DVDs play on this card, it doesn't matter if you aren't able to bust out those insane resolutions and framerates, something important if you're spending the amount of money that you are on this card. So without further ado, the numbers:

First we did the standard 3Dmarks (Mad Onion's benchmark utility), running the cards through the full range of tests at 1024x768 with 32 bit textures, 24-bit Z-buffer depth, and triple frame buffering, with hardware t&l activated. The computer in question was a PIII 600 MHz with 256 MB of RAM.

The Prophet won the battle, by a narrow margin, with the 32MB card doing frighteningly well against its 64MB cousin. Keep in mind though that cards like the Prophet only show their power at higher resolutions. Next, we did the standard helicopter simulation test on 3DMarks in three resolution levels.

The Voodoo card, as you can tell, was flailing against the GeForce competition -- but don't write it off just yet. Voodoos and 3DMarks don't mix all that well, and the true test (Quake III) is yet to come. That damn 32MB GeForce refused to fall away from the competition, that is, until the higher details and resolutions hit. At 1024x768, with detail and textures at full, the 32MB just couldn't compete. The Ultra, however, showed the largest leap, not surprising given its bigger memory pipeline, MHz, and triangle count.

Next we ran the fun and nauseating Quake III framerate test, with geometry and texture detail set to full. Snakes in suits ebook library. We ran the cards through a range of framerates, from 640x480 all the way up to 1280x960. Here are the results of the test:

While the Ultra was the clear winner here, the Prophet held up incredibly well, showing off just how well those extra 32MB of RAM can help you in a pinch. Again, those numbers don't begin to show themselves until you start hitting the higher resolutions.

So is it worth it? It's obvious that the Prophet will give you some pretty incredible numbers and framerates, and while it's not as strong as the GeForce2 Ultra, it's also a good chunk of change less in price, as well. For a retail board, the Prophet delivers a fantastic gaming experience and it makes your 3D games look absolutely incredible. The question is, are you willing to shell out the money for features which are rarely if ever used at this point on most games, or would you rather wait a bit until prices drop and more games are released that show off the features that make this card shine? Sounds like a bleeding edge versus cutting edge argument to me. I'm just here to show you the facts, not be your conscious.

$350 can also buy you a great micro-component system for your bedroom..just so you know.
