How To Stop GE Refrigerator Buzzing Noise! Country crossing raid. Is there a loud buzzing sound coming from the freezer of your GE refrigerator? If so, the good news is your fridge is probably not broken. The bad news is you've just joined a club of thousands of GE refrigerator owners, who've discovered their late-model GE refrigerator has serious design defect! The plastic parts of the refrigerator contract and expand as the temperature of the refrigerator rises and falls, causing cracking noises. These noises occur during the defrosting cycle or when the electronic parts are in use.

My freezer defrosted itself at the weekend and I unplugged it and emptied the contents. On the off chance, I switched it back on to see if it was still not working - it seemed to be ok and I've left it on.
The only problem is that it's making a clicking sound now. Is it something to do with the thermostat?

Ah bugger, mine's just started doing that this afternoon. I've Googled around a bit, and it seems like it's either the thermostat working overtime, or it's the compressor (or something - far too techie). I'm not noticing any change in temp in mine, but it's something I'm keeping an eye on.
If anyone's got an 'Idiot's Guide To What This Noise Is', I'd be most grateful.

Its a long shot but are either of these fridges made by Samsung?

Mine isn't, no - I think it's Lec, but honestly can't remember. I'll have a look when I go back downstairs and edit this.

Mine did that, now it doesn't work at all, time for a new fridge.

    Not enough info really.
If it humms for a bit then clicks, then goes silent, then repeats this about ten minutes later it will be the compressor at fault which is usually not worth repairing.
If it's a frost free and it's clicking it could be the fan catching on something.
It could be the evap plate contracting as the refrigerant is cooling it.
That's just a few of many many things it could be. In the absence of actually being there, I really need lots of specific info.

I feel like I've hijacked Trickyvik's thread - sorry about that, Trickyvik.
Mine stopped its clicking noise after a couple of hours and it hasn't been humming or anything. It was a regular single click, every 2 seconds - I can't ever hear the fridge/freezer normally, and today I could hear the clicking clear across the kitchen.
It's not a frost-free one, and, in fact, it's donkeys years old and could probably do with being changed anyway. If it's a sign that it's on the way out, which I think it may be, I'll have to replace it. The old dear's had a great innings, I have to say.
    Thanks all.
